This Knockmealdowns bottling belongs to the Mountain Range from Tipperary Boutique, the Ahern family farm distillery in Co. Tipperary. Released in 2016 as batch 0001/16, a run of 1,916 bottles, it is a 10 Years Old single malt drawn from sourced Irish stock matured while the distillery's own spirit came of age.
Maturation in first fill ex-bourbon barrels pushes vanilla, coconut and a creamy sweetness to the front, with honey and light baking spice behind. Bottled at a natural 47% without dilution, the malt shows the clean, oak forward profile of active bourbon wood, the distillery's role here one of selection and finishing.
