Description
Château Kirwan of Margaux carries an Irish name, planted by a Galway merchant family, which makes its casks a fitting landing for Irish whiskey. Thomond Gate of Limerick filled one with single pot still from the Great Northern Distillery in Dundalk, Co. Louth, and bottled it as single cask PS 001 in 2023, 300 bottles for the Irish market.
The Bordeaux wine cask folds cassis, dark plum and a fine tannic grip around the pot still character, black pepper, ginger and green apple over an oily, waxy texture from the mash of malted and unmalted barley. Bottled at a cask strength of 59.39%, it is a claret drinker's pot still, structured and dark fruited.
