Description
The oldest whiskey yet to wear the Whistler label, a 21 Years Old single malt from stock laid down long before Boann Distillery in Drogheda, Co. Meath began distilling, matured by the Cooney family in the bonder tradition. Most of its life passed in Ex-Bourbon casks before a finish in Madeira Malvasia wood, and it was bottled for the Irish market at a 54.5% cask strength, 500 half litre bottles.
Two decades of American oak show as vanilla, soft toffee and polished fresh wood, while the Malvasia casks, sweetest of Madeira's noble grapes, add baked and fresh orchard fruit, apricot and a gently oxidative tang. Malt extract richness holds the middle, and the cask strength finish runs long, fruit cake, citrus and warm oak in slow rotation.
