Description
El Misterioso sits at the older end of The Whistler range, the sherry leaning label of the Cooney family's Boann Distillery in Drogheda, Co. Meath. Boann itself only began distilling in 2019, so this 16 Years Old Irish single malt is mature sourced stock, chosen and finished by the family in the bonder tradition and released in 2023 for the German market.
The whiskey rested in second fill bourbon barrels before Palo Cortado casks took over, a rare sherry style that sits between the freshness of Amontillado and the weight of Oloroso. Expect orchard fruit and vanilla from the bourbon wood beneath dried apricot, roasted hazelnut and a saline, nutty depth, delivered undiluted at 56% so a drop of water opens the fruit further.
