Description
Mars Komagatake, the single malt brand of Mars Shinshu distillery in Miyada, Nagano, is produced by Hombo Shuzo at Japan's highest whisky distillery. This 2022 European market release takes the standard Ex-Bourbon foundation and adds an IPA beer cask finish, a maturation step that has become a signature of the Komagatake line's more experimental annual editions.
IPA casks, formerly holding India Pale Ale, impart hop-derived bitterness, citrus and a distinctive aromatic brightness to the whisky, setting this edition apart from the distillery's more traditional cask releases. At 52% cask strength, the bottling preserves the full texture of both the mountain-clean Mars Shinshu distillate and the layered influence of the beer cask finish, making for a distinctive NAS Komagatake expression.
