Distilled in 2018 at Hombo Shuzo's Mars Shinshu distillery in Miyada, Nagano prefecture, this single cask Mars Komagatake spent 6 years maturing in a Bourbon Barrel before La Maison du Whisky selected it for bottling in 2025 at natural cask strength for the French market. The Bourbon Barrel format allows the clean spirit of this high-altitude distillery to come forward with minimal interruption from heavy wood.
Six years in a Bourbon Barrel in the cool, thin air of the Central Alps of Nagano typically produces a clean, lighter style with vanilla, fresh cereal and a gentle orchard sweetness. At 58.4% cask strength the spirit retains the concentrated intensity of the barrel without the heavier oak extraction that warmer climates would produce over the same period. La Maison du Whisky's selection highlights the distillery's naturally delicate new-make character, typical of the Komagatake house style.
