This single cask Mars Komagatake was distilled in 2016 at Hombo Shuzo's Mars Shinshu distillery in Miyada, Nagano prefecture, and matured for 8 years in an Oloroso Sherry Hogshead before being selected and bottled in 2025 at natural cask strength by La Maison du Whisky for the French market. It is among the older independent bottlings from this revived high-altitude distillery.
Eight years in an Oloroso hogshead at one of Japan's coolest and highest maturation environments draws out honey, dried fig and a gentle oxidative richness from the sherry wood, while the mountain air of the Nagano Alps keeps the spirit's clean, cereal backbone intact beneath. At 58.4% cask strength the sherry influence is concentrated and the wood tannins are present but integrated. The La Maison du Whisky selection brings a characteristically precise French independent bottler's eye to a single cask that speaks clearly of its Nagano origins.
