Description
The Mars 8 Years Old is an age-stated blended malt from Mars Shinshu, the Hombo Shuzo distillery in Miyada, Nagano, operating at roughly 800 metres above sea level in the Central Alps. Eight years of maturation represents a meaningful statement for a distillery that only restarted production in 2011, and this bottling, released for the German market in a 720ml format, shows the house investing in longer-aged stock.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon casks and bottled at 43%, the whisky reflects the clean, cool-climate character typical of the high-altitude site. Without specific flavour data for this bottling, the expected profile follows the Mars Shinshu house style: light orchard fruit, vanilla, gentle cereals and a fresh, airy quality shaped by the mountain environment and the straightforward influence of well-aged bourbon wood.
