The Lost Distilleries Blend Batch 8 (The Blended Whisky Company)

The Lost Distilleries Blend Batch 8 (The Blended Whisky Company) is a blended Scotch from The Blended Whisky Company. It marries malt and grain whiskies, including spirit from the lost Caperdonich distillery. Its four stills were dispersed, a pair going as far as Belgium and others to Falkirk.

Spirit from the demolished Caperdonich gives the blend a soft, waxy fruit. An American oak cask shaped it, soft and creamy beneath the fruit. The slow loss of the angel's share concentrates the fruity, waxy core over the decades. Its spirit went largely into blends such as Chivas Regal and Royal Salute. The light, creamy spirit takes cask flavour readily while keeping its pear and mint. Years in oak round the spirit, the pear and cream deepening with age. The cool Speyside air gave a slow, even maturation in the Rothes warehouses. The light Speyside make gains most of its depth from decades in good oak.

At a hearty 53.1% it carries real weight. Soft pear, cream and dried fruit run through it, with a waxy, fruity depth. Mango, pear and a soft vanilla fill the middle. The finish is long, fruity and waxy. A characterful blended Scotch drawing on a vanished distillery.
