Cask 58505 is a single cask of Teeling single pot still whiskey matured in virgin American oak, bottled in 2021 at its full 63.3% for Belgium and Luxembourg. Unused oak is a bold choice for the pot still style, and Teeling, the company that returned distilling to Dublin's Liberties in 2015, has made a habit of such choices.
The virgin oak gives freshly sawn wood, butterscotch, toasted vanilla and coconut, big flavours that the spirit's peppery, gingery pot still prickle and oily texture push back against rather than sink beneath. At cask strength it is fiery and concentrated, rewarding patience and a little water, which pulls green apple and barley sugar out from under the oak.
