Bottled for the German retailer Whisky.de as an event release, cask #77588 is a 2017 vintage Teeling single malt that spent all eight of its years in cherry wood, with no oak stage at all. The spirit was triple distilled at the Newmarket distillery in Dublin.
Cherry wood maturation moves fast and speaks its own language, red fruit, almond and a sweet sappy spice where vanilla would normally sit, and a full eight years have given it real depth here. Bottled at a cask strength 59.2%, it is one of the stranger single casks in the Teeling stable, best approached as its own thing rather than compared to oak aged malt.
