Description
Tatratea is a Slovak tea liqueur range from the Tatra mountains, built on black tea plus mountain herbs and sold across a wide strength ladder. This Apple and Pear edition lands near the top at 67%, made with black tea, oak shavings and selected herbs and spices in the modern Tatratea style that draws on the region's old tradition of herbal healing potions of honey, herbs and alcohol. The orchard fruit sits over that tea and herb base rather than replacing it.
The nose is fruity with ripe pears and apples and a clear apple strudel note. The palate brings winter spices of cinnamon and vanilla alongside ripe apples, pears, baked apple and caramel, the finish long. At this strength it carries a great deal of flavour in a small measure, so a little goes far in a mix, contributing orchard fruit sweetness, baking spice and a warming alcoholic lift. It suits a long build with hot or cold tea and lengtheners, or a measured pour over plenty of ice. Treat the high strength with respect when balancing a drink.
