From The Whisky Agency comes this Tamnavulin, a 43 year old release from 1967 and bottled at 41%. 204 bottles in all. Founded in 1966 in the heart of Speyside on the Livet, Tamnavulin is a light Speyside malt. It is one of the few distilleries that sits right on the River Livet.

The spirit was made in copper pot stills with purifiers that keep the spirit light, for a light, fruity make of real charm. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the fruit. At over thirty years it is rich and waxy, candied fruit, honey and old oak from the founding stock. Long, gentle ageing turns the orchard fruit towards honey and soft spice. Water is drawn from the Easterton Spring, filtered through limestone. The distillery is now owned by the Philippine Emperador group through Whyte and Mackay. Its modern range leans on cask finishes, the motto single malt, double flavour. The name is Gaelic for mill on the hill, a nod to the old mill on its grounds.

At 41% it is smooth and fruity. Vanilla and a light cream from the barrel, with pear, hay and a floral lift. The texture is light and smooth, the fruit lifted by honey. The finish runs light, fresh and gentle. This is the mill on the hill malt of Glen Livet.
