Description
Taketsuru Pure Malt is Nikka's NAS blended malt expression, combining malt whisky from Yoichi in Hokkaido and Miyagikyo in Miyagi Prefecture. This Netherlands edition at 43% is notable for incorporating both Ex-Bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks in the maturation, giving it a more layered character than the standard pure malt expression.
The sherry wood adds chocolate, honey and a darker dried fruit quality over the vanilla and fresh fruit the bourbon oak provides, with the sherry influence visible clearly in the flavour profile. Yoichi's firmer, more structured malt character provides the backbone while Miyagikyo's softer, more fragrant profile adds lift, and the combination of the two cask types deepens the overall complexity of this NAS bottling.
