Description
Taketsuru 17 Years Old is Nikka's blended malt honouring the founder Masataka Taketsuru, built from malt whisky at Yoichi in Hokkaido and Miyagikyo in Miyagi Prefecture. This 2019 European release at 43% is notable for its declared cask mix of Ex-Bourbon and Ex-Sherry, a combination that gives the 17 year maturation an added dimension.
The Ex-Sherry casks layer darker fruit and subtle spice over the vanilla and fruit sweetness the bourbon oak provides, while Yoichi contributes its firmer malt character and Miyagikyo adds the softer orchard and floral notes that balance the two. The result is a rounder, slightly denser expression within the Taketsuru 17 range.
