Description
Taketsuru 17 Years Old is Nikka's blended malt marrying the outputs of Yoichi in Hokkaido and Miyagikyo in Miyagi Prefecture, named in honour of the company's Scottish-trained founder. This global edition was bottled in 2015 at 43% and is specifically noted for its dual maturation in Ex-Bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks.
The combination of bourbon and sherry wood brings depth to the profile: the bourbon casks contribute vanilla sweetness and orchard fruit while the Oloroso adds dried fruit, a rich spice and a darker, more savoury edge. Yoichi's firm, slightly smoky malt provides the structural backbone and Miyagikyo's lighter, more fragrant character balances it, with the two cask types weaving together across the 17 year maturation.
