Description
Taketsuru 12 Years Old is a 12 year old blended malt from Nikka, combining malt from the Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido and the Miyagikyo distillery in Miyagi Prefecture. This bottling was released for the Australian market at 40%, drawing on Ex-Bourbon cask maturation across both malt components.
The Taketsuru range is Nikka's dedicated blended malt line, named for Masataka Taketsuru whose training in Scotland shaped the entire company's philosophy. Yoichi's firmer, slightly smoky and maritime malt and Miyagikyo's softer, more fruit-forward and floral character meet across the 12 year maturation and are shaped by Ex-Bourbon oak into a balanced, accessible whole. The vanilla and light cereal warmth of the cask ties the contrasting distillery characters together at the lighter 40% bottling strength.
