Takamaka Le Clos Napa Laz

Takamaka Napa Laz is part of the distillery’s Le Clos Series, a line built around small scale experimental releases that focus on process transparency and minimal intervention. This bottling is a pure white rum made from 100% Seychelles sugarcane, produced at Trois Frères Distillery on Mahé, and released at a high natural strength of 53.4% ABV. It is deliberately presented without added sugar and without charcoal filtration or chill filtration, keeping the distillate’s natural structure intact.

Napa Laz is made entirely from local non-hybrid sugarcane varieties sourced from farmers in the Seychelles, rather than molasses. That raw material choice pushes the profile toward fresh cane juice character, with more emphasis on herbaceous and mineral notes rather than caramelised sweetness. The production is also designed to showcase precision distillation: the spirit is first run through a 1,000L still and then refined using a smaller 450L still, giving tighter control over separation and concentration of aromatic compounds.

A key technical feature of this release is how the blend is constructed. The final composition is reported as 16.5% freshly collected hearts and 83.5% re-distilled blend, where heads and tails are reprocessed to recover additional aroma while reducing aggressive edges. With no cask maturation involved, the flavour is driven almost entirely by fermentation and distillation choices, delivering a profile that leans vegetal, peppery and citrus led with a long mineral finish, and notes often described in the territory of green pepper, citrus zest, bread dough and tropical fruit.
