Description
Suntory Very Rare Old is a house blend from the company's older portfolio, not a single malt, drawing malt whisky from the Yamazaki distillery in Osaka and the forest distillery at Hakushu in Yamanashi together with light grain whisky from Chita in Aichi. It is an expression of Suntory's three sites in concert, built to the rich, settled character the house has long associated with its more senior blends rather than the signature of any one distillery.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon oak, it leads with honey and ripe orchard fruit, vanilla and gentle wood spice, with the soft sandalwood and incense note Suntory draws from Japanese oak threading through. The Yamazaki and Hakushu malts lend depth and shape while the Chita grain gives a smooth, rounded base. At 43% it stays full but composed, an older style blend that reflects the layered, harmonious balance Suntory has pursued across its range for generations.
