Description
Suntory Pure Malt Special Edition 60th Anniversary is a single malt from Yamazaki, bottled in 1983 to mark sixty years of the company, which was founded in 1899 and opened its first malt distillery at Yamazaki in 1923. The whisky comes from the distillery in the valley of Shimamoto, Osaka Prefecture, and was released as a commemorative bottling tied to that anniversary.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon wood, the whisky takes its sweetness and structure from American oak in the Yamazaki house style. Expect vanilla and orchard fruit with a soft malt note, the profile composed and balanced rather than heavy. At 43% it is gentle and rounded, an older Yamazaki single malt that carries the weight of its anniversary occasion while staying true to the distillery's character of fruit and oak in measured balance.
