Description
St. Kilian Berry Waldfruchtlikoer at 30% is a wild berry liqueur from St. Kilian Distillers, the German single malt distillery in Ruedenau. Like its sibling it is built on St. Kilian single malt spirit made from 100% barley malt, distilled twice in original Scottish copper stills, but at the higher strength the fruit carries more spirit weight and a firmer backbone.
The nose is sweet and fruity with notes of berries, the palate sweetish with fruity raspberry, strawberry and blackberry, the finish long and pleasantly sweet. The single malt base and the raised strength set it apart from the lighter party berry liqueurs: there is more body here, and the fruit holds its shape when the bottle is poured neat or stirred into a drink. It is best enjoyed neat, alongside desserts or with dark chocolate, where the berry sweetness pairs naturally. In a mix the concentrated forest fruit and deeper strength make it a useful component where both colour and a fruit driven backbone are wanted.
