St. Kilian Distillers Berry Waldfruchtlikoer is a wild berry liqueur from St. Kilian Distillers, the German single malt distillery in Ruedenau, bottled here at 21%. Unusually for a fruit liqueur, it is built on St. Kilian single malt spirit from 100% barley malt, distilled twice in original Scottish copper stills for purity, so ripe forest berries sit on a whisky derived base rather than a neutral one.

The nose is sweet and fruity wild berries with clear strawberry, raspberry and blackberry, the palate full bodied, fruity and sweet with dominant wild berry flavours, the finish long with lingering berry sweetness and fine fruitiness. The deep purple colour and concentrated fruit make it useful behind the bar for colour and sweetness, while the single malt base lends a touch more body than a standard fruit liqueur. Serve it over ice, use it as a fruity component in cocktails and long drinks, or pour it through desserts, ice cream or dark chocolate, where its forest berry character carries cleanly.
