Description
Shizuoka 5 Years Old 2018 is a single cask single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, distilled in 2018 and bottled in 2024 for an event release at 46.3%. Unlike the majority of Shizuoka's single cask bottlings, this expression is not bottled at full cask strength, giving it a softer, more approachable character while still retaining the individual cask's identity.
Five years in an Ex-Bourbon cask has mellowed the spirit considerably, bringing vanilla, ripe pear and a light nuttiness alongside the fresh cereal and orchard fruit that typify the Shizuoka house style. The cedar washbacks used at Gaiaflow's distillery contribute a subtle aromatic lift that is more perceptible at this lower strength than in the distillery's higher-ABV single cask releases. A gentle entry point into Shizuoka's single cask range.
