Description
Shizuoka 5 Years Old 2018 is a single cask cask strength single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, distilled in 2018 and bottled in 2024 for an event market at 51.7%. At five years from a 2018 distillation, it arrives as one of the older single casks from the distillery's second production year, with more time in American oak than the 2018 four-year bottlings.
The Ex-Bourbon cask has contributed vanilla, fresh citrus and a soft warming spice over five years, while the new make character, shaped by Gaiaflow's cedar washbacks and the careful raw material selection the distillery is known for, provides the orchard fruit and clean cereal backbone. At 51.7% it is well balanced between the directness of cask strength and the accessibility of a diluted expression, and rewards both neat drinking and a small addition of water.
