Description
Shizuoka 4 Years Old 2018 Cask #2018-283 is a single cask single malt from Gaiaflow's Shizuoka distillery in Shizuoka prefecture, selected by independent bottler Jwhisky and released as an event only in 2022. Drawn from a non-peated Ex-Bourbon cask from the 2018 vintage, it was bottled at 51.5% cask strength, a slightly more restrained strength than many of the Shizuoka single cask releases in this collection.
The Ex-Bourbon maturation over four years will have given the spirit its vanilla and light cereal sweetness, and the non-peated designation confirms that the new make character here is clean and fruit-forward rather than smoky. Flavour data for this cask is not recorded, but Shizuoka's non-peated Ex-Bourbon single casks from the 2018 vintage are known for the fresh, lightly herbal and gently fruity character that cedar washback fermentation contributes alongside the bourbon wood. The 51.5% bottling strength makes this one of the more accessible cask strength Shizuokas in the range.
