Description
Schlumberger has made sparkling wine in Vienna since 1842 and remains Austria's benchmark for the traditional bottle-fermented method it pioneered in the country. This vintage Sekt, presented as a large-format bottle in a gift box, takes a second fermentation in bottle followed by extended ageing on the lees. That autolytic contact builds the bready, nutty layer that sets bottle-fermented Sekt apart from lighter tank-method fizz, while Austria's cool growing season keeps the acidity taut and the fruit clean.
The wine is a bright straw colour with a fine, persistent bead. The nose leads with green apple, pear and lemon over almond and a soft floral note. The palate is dry and structured, the mousse creamy, with a biscuity depth and orchard fruit into a long finish. Serve at 7 to 9 degrees in a white wine glass to open the aromatics. It works as an aperitif and alongside shellfish, white fish and hard nutty cheeses, and its scale suits a large celebration.
