Description
Named for the year the house was founded, Schlumberger's Cuvée 1842 Reserve is a vintage Austrian Sekt and the top of its traditional method range. The 2015 is fermented a second time in bottle and held on its lees well beyond the standard, and that long ageing is what gives the wine its depth. The blend uses classic sparkling grapes, and the Brut dosage keeps the finish dry.
The colour is a deep gold with a fine, mature mousse. The nose combines apple, lemon and white peach with a pronounced toasted bread, biscuit and hazelnut character from the extended lees contact. On the palate it is dry, structured and long, the autolytic depth balanced by firm acidity. Serve chilled at 8 to 10 degrees in a tulip glass to let the aromatics open. A Sekt for the table as much as the aperitif, it suits lobster, fine white fish and mature hard cheeses.
