Description
Schlumberger have made sparkling wine in Vienna since 1842 and are Austria's best known name for Sekt produced by traditional bottle fermentation, the same method used in Champagne. The Klassik Brut is built on native Austrian white grapes, led by Grüner Veltliner with Welschriesling, giving a fresh, orchard driven base. After the second fermentation in bottle the wine rests on the lees, which lends a fine bead and a bready depth beneath the fruit. The Brut dosage keeps the finish dry.
The wine is a pale straw with a fine, steady perlage. Green apple, pear and lemon lead the nose, with white flowers and a light toasty tone. The palate is fresh and clean, with orchard fruit over a subtle biscuity base and a mineral edge, closing dry. Serve well chilled at 7 to 9 degrees in a white wine glass. A fine aperitif that also suits white fish, shellfish and lighter cheeses.
