Description
Founded in Vienna in 1842, Schlumberger is Austria's oldest sparkling wine producer and works to the traditional bottle-fermented method it has used since the outset. This 2021 vintage Sekt, presented in a gift box, is built from a single year's harvest and given a second fermentation in bottle, then aged on its lees. The contact with spent yeast cells develops the toasted, nutty complexity typical of traditional-method sparkling wine, while Austria's cool climate preserves the fresh acidity that keeps the wine lively.
The wine shows a pale gold colour with a steady stream of fine bubbles. Green apple, pear and citrus peel open the nose, followed by biscuit and hazelnut from the lees. On the palate it is dry and well structured, the mousse fine, with orchard fruit and a bready undertone through a long, clean finish. Serve chilled at 7 to 9 degrees in a tulip glass. It suits an aperitif, shellfish, white fish and firmer cheeses.
