Description
Schlumberger is a historic Austrian sparkling wine house, long associated with making Sekt by the traditional bottle-fermentation method rather than the tank method used for most Austrian fizz. This Brut is built on Austrian grapes, typically led by Grüner Veltliner with Welschriesling, and undergoes its second fermentation in the bottle followed by ageing on the lees. That autolytic contact is what gives the wine its bready complexity alongside the fresh Austrian fruit. The Brut dosage keeps the finish dry and clean.
The colour is bright straw with a fine, steady bead. The nose leads with green apple, pear and lemon, backed by white peach, a soft toasted-bread and fresh-dough note and a light floral lift. The palate is dry and structured, with a fine mousse and a clean, lightly biscuity finish. Serve well chilled at around 7 to 9 degrees. It works as an aperitif and alongside white fish, shellfish and roast poultry.
