Description
Schlumberger is one of Austria's best-known sparkling houses, and this Reserve Brut takes a single vintage of Pinot Noir through the traditional method. A second fermentation in bottle followed by extended ageing on the lees builds the wine's creamy texture and its light autolytic character, while a low dosage of around 7 grams per litre keeps the style firmly dry. Working with Pinot Noir as a single variety gives the wine red-fruited depth alongside the structure and freshness expected of a serious Austrian Sekt.
The colour is a light golden yellow with a fine, lasting perlage. The nose leads with red berries and yellow apple over brioche and gentle yeast. On the palate it is fresh and creamy, with clear red fruit, a rounded mousse and lively acidity carrying through to a dry, balanced and long finish. Serve well chilled at 6 to 8 degrees in a white wine glass or flute. It works as an aperitif and alongside fine fish, seafood and poultry.
