Description
Schlumberger has produced sparkling wine in Vienna since 1842 and works to the traditional bottle-fermented method it introduced to Austria. Its Klassik range is made by a second fermentation in bottle followed by ageing on the lees, the contact with spent yeast building the bready, nutty character that distinguishes traditional-method Sekt from lighter tank fizz. Austria's cool climate keeps the acidity fresh and the fruit clean. This selection gathers three small format bottles, well suited to single servings or a shared aperitif.
The wine is a pale straw colour with a fine, steady bead. The nose leads with green apple, pear and citrus peel over almond and a soft floral note. The palate is dry and structured, the mousse fine, with a biscuity depth and orchard fruit into a long, clean finish. Serve at 7 to 9 degrees in a white wine glass. It works as an aperitif and alongside shellfish, white fish and firmer cheeses.
