Description
Yamazakura 6 Years Old is a single malt from the Asaka distillery, owned by Sasanokawa Shuzo in Fukushima prefecture. Sasanokawa Shuzo is one of Japan's most enduring whisky producers, keeping the spirit alive through the lean decades before opening Asaka in 2016 as its dedicated malt site. This release was bottled in 2018 for the German market.
The whisky was matured in Ex-Bourbon casks and finished in Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks, a combination that layers red berry and dried grape over the vanilla and light grain sweetness typical of bourbon-rested new make. At 46% and with its wine cask flourish, it shows the Asaka team's willingness to experiment even at a young age.
