Description
Yamazakura 15 Years Old is a single malt from Sasanokawa Shuzo's Asaka distillery in Fukushima prefecture, bottled in 2015 for the global market at 43%. At fifteen years the whisky has had time to develop genuine depth while the distillery's careful cask management keeps it accessible and balanced at a moderate bottling strength.
Matured in Ex-Bourbon casks and finished across wine and fresh bourbon wood, the result is a layered but approachable expression: vanilla and orchard fruit from the bourbon ageing, a gentle fruity lift from the wine finish and a thread of fresh oak brightness from the new bourbon wood. It is a considered multi-wood bottling that demonstrates Sasanokawa Shuzo's long experience with the Yamazakura range.
