A continental-aged Barbados blend from the historic Italian bottler Samaroli at a measured 45%, dry and almondy with marzipan, leather and clear bourbon-cask oak, a poised, whisky-like sipper that trades the usual banana and toffee for restraint.
Description
Samaroli, the historic Italian purist bottler, released this Barbados rum in its Rhapsody line, a 2006 vintage blend bottled in 2023 at a deliberately measured 45%. In the Samaroli style it is unsweetened and continental-aged in cooler Europe, where slower maturation gives a gentler, more restrained result than tropical ageing would, and the house reduces proof for elegance rather than power.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak across fifteen years, it leans dry and nutty, with marzipan and almond leading the nose and a palate of marzipan, leather and clear bourbon-cask character. The finish stays dry and barrel-driven. Several tasters note how close it sits to whisky, and that is fair, this is a poised, oak-forward Bajan that trades the usual banana and toffee for an almond-and-leather restraint, suiting drinkers who like their rum dry and contemplative.
