This Amphorhum white from Saint Eloi Spirits draws on Engenhos do Norte on Madeira, one of the island's historic cane mills that distils from fresh roxa cane juice in the agricole manner rather than from molasses. Unaged and bottled at a characterful 49%, it captures the raw, terroir-driven side of cane spirit, the roxa varietal lending its own twist.

The nose leads with juicy fresh sugarcane, moist and inviting, before a savoury turn brings mushroom, olive and a mineral edge alongside lychee, citrus and corn as it airs.
