Edition 55 HQNB is a Spirit of Rum bottling in the Rumclub Private Selection line, a high-proof navy blend of Trinidad, Jamaica and Guyana rum, aged twenty-three years and presented unsweetened at cask strength, 59.2%. Navy blends live or die on how their components knit together, and this old, full-proof vatting is built to reward slow, attentive drinking.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak, the nose is spicy, with dried fruit, dark chocolate and caramel, while the palate brings leather, dark chocolate, dried fruit and oak. The finish stays dark, with oak, dark chocolate and leather lingering. Given time in the glass it shifts and unfolds, layering dried fruit, tobacco and dark cocoa with notably smooth alcohol integration for the strength, and a slightly Spanish lean in its sweetness. It suits drinkers who enjoy deep navy blends and want something rounded, elegant and rewarding over a long sit.
