A ten year old Hampden OWH bottled by Rum Runner, a softer column distilled and low ester side of the estate, gentle with tropical fruit, young wood and vanilla over a spicy, lightly medicinal finish.
Description
Bottled by Rum Runner, this is a ten year old Hampden distilled in 2012 from the OWH marque, the lightest and cleanest recipe the Trelawny estate produces. While Hampden is famous for explosive funk, OWH sits at the gentle end of its range, and this release shows the quieter, less estery face of the distillery.
Matured in ex-bourbon, it keeps tropical fruit and banana on the nose while the palate stays softer, with young wood, vanilla and spice, and a finish carrying tannins and a light medicinal note. At 59.7 percent the strength brings some heat, so a splash of water helps. Bottled unsweetened, it is an approachable way to explore Hampden's subtler side, where fruit and oak lead and the funk is dialled right back.
