Ron Dos Mares Roya Dorada XO Port Finish is a single cask Panamanian rum from the 2013 vintage, aged twelve years and finished in Port wood. Panamanian rum tends to be light and soft, built on clean molasses spirit, with the barrel shaping most of the flavour, and a single cask offers a snapshot of one particular ageing.
The Port finish should add red fruit, plum and a touch of sweet spice over the vanilla and caramel that oak ageing typically lends a Panama rum. Bottled at 40% and not at cask strength, it reads as a smooth, rounded rum with a wine cask twist, suited to relaxed sipping after dinner rather than high proof intensity.
