Thirty two years of oak at a gentle 45.2 percent, this Romdeluxe Wild Series Uitvlugt carries an MPM Port Mourant style mark, dry and woody with light fruit, vanilla and pencil notes, easy going rather than powerful.
Description
Romdeluxe released this as Uitvlugt No. 29 in its Wild Series, a single cask from the 1989 vintage and an unusually patient thirty-two years old. The MPM marque is a Port Mourant style recipe recreated on the Uitvlugt still, so it carries that darker pot character while staying lighter than a true PM in this form.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and molasses based, it is bottled dry and unsweetened at a gentle 45.2 percent rather than cask strength. That softer proof leaves it subtle and easy: roasted wood and vanilla on the nose, dried fruit, anise and timber on the palate, and a finish of wood, light medicinal notes, raisin and vanilla. Three decades of oak give plenty of polish without brute force, an approachable and relaxed way into well aged Guyanese rum.
