Romdeluxe Uitvlugt Wild Series Rum Port Mourant No. 33 MPM 1991

Romdeluxe, the Danish house behind the high ester Wild Series with its black and white animal labels, bottled this 1991 Uitvlugt single cask carrying the Port Mourant marque. The Wild Series is built on intense, full strength funk, and this thirty year old combines the Uitvlugt lineage with the heavy PM character of the double wooden pot still. It is bottled unsweetened at cask strength.

Molasses based, matured in oak and port, it noses on wood, herbal notes, dried fruit and a medicinal edge, then carries wood, roast, dried fruit and intensity onto the palate before a finish of wood, raisin, spice and warmth. There is plenty of leather, wood and fruit in this intense Guyanese nose, leading to a deep, satisfying palate. At 58.3% it has real weight and the herbal, woody power these old Demeraras command.
