A barely controlled 77.75 percent single cask from the Diamond estate, this four year Guyanese rum hits with vanilla, roasted nuts and fresh virgin oak, a wild high proof bottle for drinkers chasing the edge of their ABV limit.
Description
RomDeluxe released this under its Wild Series, the Danish line built on very high strength single casks aimed at thrill seekers, and this Diamond distillate pushes that idea to 77.75 percent. Diamond's column still gives a cleaner, more approachable base than the heavy wooden pot stills, which is part of why the rum holds together at all at this strength.
Despite only four years in virgin oak, the spirit drinks remarkably integrated for its proof, with vanilla, caramel, roasted nuts and fresh sawn oak, an oily viscosity and a warm, peppery, slightly astringent finish. The young virgin cask drives the woody sweetness, and the unsweetened spirit keeps it honest rather than sticky. This is unapologetically a bottle for seasoned enthusiasts who want to test their limits, best approached in small measures with water close at hand.
