Description
RA Rum GMWE 1996 is a Rum Artesanal single cask from Grenada, a 1996 vintage column still rum carrying twenty seven years of maturation in ex bourbon and bottled by Heinz Eggert at 55.4%. Despite that age it sidesteps heavy oak, showing instead a precise, herbal fruited character that sets it apart from more wood driven old rums.
The nose is led by menthol and mint with honey and currants. The palate keeps that cool herbal line, menthol and currant over honeycomb and burnt sugar, while the finish brings pastry, mirabelle plum, cinnamon and yellow fruit. There is a gentle natural sweetness and a tea like, citrus inflected quality that makes it feel light footed for its strength. The proof could integrate a touch more tightly, but this remains a relaxed, easygoing way into aged Grenada for drinkers who prize finesse over oak and funk.
