A cask strength Guyanese single cask from Maison Ferrand’s Planteray, distilled in 2007 and finished in Teeling single malt casks before bottling near 16 years and 53.6%, an aged Demerara with an Irish whiskey twist.
Description
This Planteray single cask, bottled by Maison Ferrand for the Danish retailer Juuls, takes an aged Guyanese rum and finishes it in casks that held Teeling Irish single malt whiskey. Distilled in 2007, it spent close to 16 years maturing before bottling at a full 53.6%.
Molasses based and drawn from one of DDL's heritage stills, the rum brings the brown sugar, dark fruit and wood of aged Demerara, while the single malt finish adds a malty, gently fruity layer. As a single cask bottled at cask strength rather than the sweetened mainstream Planteray blends, it shows the spirit more openly, a richer, more characterful release with an unusual whiskey accent.
