A Barbados and Trinidad blend from Planteray at 40%, soft and dessert like with roasted coconut, almond, banana and chocolate over a coffee, cinnamon and dark chocolate finish, fairly sweet and very easy.
Description
Planteray, the Maison Ferrand brand previously sold as Plantation, builds this Black Cask from Barbados and Trinidad rums at 40%. In the house manner the spirit is double aged in cognac casks and openly dosed, so it should be taken as a soft, sweetened blend rather than an unsweetened one.
The blend leans into a roasted, chocolatey register, with banana, nutty notes and vanilla on the nose giving way to coffee, chocolate and a minty apple lift, then a finish of dark chocolate, coffee, cinnamon and nutmeg. Drinkers find it fairly sweet but not cloying, fruity with a touch of welcome bitterness and spice. Mild and approachable at 40%, it sips easily and mixes well, the sweetness keeping it firmly on the accessible side.
