Oxenham distills in Mauritius, and this Bougainville Single Cask is a pot-still rum made from molasses, aged seven years and bottled at full strength, 50% and unsweetened, from a single sherry cask. It sits apart from the island's agricole output as a richer, molasses-based expression.
The sherry cask drives the character here. The nose is sweet and inviting with sherry, prunes and honey, while the palate turns woody and spiced with sweet caramel, and the finish brings oak, more prunes, dark chocolate and a nutty depth. Pot distillation gives it body and the sherry wood layers in dried-fruit richness, yet it stays honestly unsweetened, with the sweetness coming from cask and fruit rather than dosage.
