Description
Ron Esclavo XO comes from Oliver & Oliver, the Dominican blending house behind Cubaney and Opthimus, here in a cask-strength edition bottled by Denmark's 1423 World Class Spirits. It carries a stated twenty-three years on column-distilled molasses spirit in ex-bourbon oak.
At a forceful 65% this is a very different beast from the soft 40% rons the Dominican Republic is known for. Expect concentrated vanilla, caramel and dark dried fruit over considerable warmth, the kind of pour that rewards patient sipping and a little water. Added sugar is not stated for this bottling, but the high strength and long ageing point to a rich, full-bodied character.
