Description
O Reizinho is a small Madeira producer distilling from fresh pressed sugar cane juice, part of the island's long tradition of cane spirit. Madeira is one of the few places permitted to use the agricole term outside the French islands, and this is a 2018 vintage aged six years and matured in Madeira casks.
Pot still distillation gives a fuller, more textured spirit than the lighter column style, and the Madeira wood points toward nutty, lightly fortified wine sweetness laid over a dry, grassy cane core. Expect the herbaceous, peppery character of cane juice carried alongside vanilla and spice from six years in oak. Unsweetened at 45 percent, it leans dry and characterful.
