Description
Nobilis Rum bottled this single cask Uitvlugt from 1998 with 25 years of age and the ICBU marque. Uitvlugt ran a Savalle column still, giving a refined and lightly spiced base, though this bottling sits firmly on the dry, woody side rather than the fruity one.
Matured in ex-bourbon and bottled unsweetened at 58.9%, it leans oak-driven: black tea, roasted wood and vanilla up front, with chocolate, light smoke and dried fruit behind and a licorice-and-spice finish. The elegant, lightly fruited nose gives way to a more spiced palate, and the strength carries it without dilution. This is a slow-sipping rum rather than a mixer, suited to drinkers who like older Demerara with the wood and spice turned up and the sugar left out.
