Description
Nishinomiya was Nikka's grain distillery in Hyogo prefecture, part of the Asahi Breweries group, and it closed its doors in 1999. Its output fed the Nikka blending programme for decades, and individual cask bottlings like this one represent the diminishing stock from its final years of production. This expression was distilled in 1997 and bottled in 2011 for the Netherlands market.
Aged fourteen years in a single Ex-Bourbon cask and released at cask strength 57%, the whisky reflects the gentle, lighter character typical of Japanese single grain from this site: vanilla and baked custard up front, with green apple, soft cereal and a touch of oak spice that has built across the long barrel rest. Unfaded and undiluted, it is a rare snapshot of Nishinomiya at work.
